KVK, Hoshiarpur conducted as an awareness programme for mobilization of agriculture students to curb the practice of paddy residue burning at S.G.G.S Khalsa College, Mahilpur ( Hoshiarpur) on August 21, 2018.
Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Deputy Director, KVK, Hoshiarpur highlighted the harmful effects of burning of crop residue and laid stress on the proper management of paddy residue through the use of farm machinery. He informed that management of paddy residue is of utmost importance at this moment and stressed upon. The practical role to be played by agriculture students for spreading this message.
Dr. Parvinder Singh, Principal, S.G.G.S Khalsa College, Mahilpur exhorted the students to curb the practice of paddy residue burning and appreciate the efforts of KVK for creating awareness regarding the crop residue management.
Er. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agri. Engg.), KVK discussed with the students in details about recommended paddy residue management technologies and informed about various nutrients available in the paddy crop residue and their importance for soil health.
On this occasion Dr. Jaswinder Singh Tamber, from Agrosum Biofuels, Chamkaur Sahib also highlighted the usage of paddy crop residue in the fuel industry.
Various technical lectures were also delivered for the benefit of the students by the experts of KVK, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Dr. Pawitar Singh , Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Aulakh, Dr. Harpreet Singh regarding integrated pest management, importance of soil testing and integrated nutrition gardening.
Various technical lectures were also delivered by the experts of KVK and also conducted debate, essay writing and painting competitions for agriculture students to create awareness for shunning the practical of paddy residue burning. Agricultural students Sarbjit Singh (1st), Gursharan Singh and Baljinder Singh (2nd) and Neeraj Kumar (3rd) in debate. Shivani(1st), Rupinder Kaur(2nd) and Vinay kumar (3rd) in painting. Moreover, in essay writing Sugandha (1st), Mehak(2nd) and Priya(3rd).
At the end, Dr. Parvinder Singh thanked Dr. Maninder Singh Bons and KVK experts, Agriculture staff (Mrs. Manpreet Kaur, Mr. Suraj Kumar, Mr. Manmeet Singh and Mr. Jobanjit Singh) and students for providing whole hearted support in working the programme successfully.
